VW / Audi / Škoda / SEAT Harman MMI Navigation Repair
MIB · MIB2 · MIB2.5
Many VW, Audi, Škoda, and SEAT vehicles equipped with Harman MMI navigation units suffer from audio and sound failures over time. This is a known factory design weakness, yet no official recall was ever issued.
If your screen works but the sound cuts out, disappears, or behaves unpredictably — this page is for you.
Affected Systems
We repair Harman-based factory navigation and multimedia units, including:
- VW / Audi / Škoda / SEAT MMI Navigation
- MIB, MIB2, and MIB2.5 platforms
- Discover Media systems
If your issue is related to touch response, ghost touches, or an unresponsive screen rather than audio failure, see our VW / ŠKODA / SEAT MIB2 Touch Screen Repair (Discover Media) service.
For non-multimedia standalone head units, see our Modern Car Radio Repair service.
This service does not apply to classic radios. For those, see our Classic / Vintage Car Radio Repair service.
Common Harman MMI Sound Failure Symptoms
These problems usually start intermittently and get worse over time:
- Volume cutting in and out
- No sound at all
- Audio randomly turning off
- Sound stops when the unit gets warm
- Blown fuses
- Cooling fan running constantly
- Battery drain while parked
In many cases, the infotainment screen continues to work normally, which often leads to misdiagnosis.
What Causes the Failure (Important)
This is not a software issue.
Inside Harman MMI units, certain:
- solder joints
- power-related components
- amplifier sections
are underspecified for long-term heat and vibration.

Over time:
- solder joints crack
- power delivery becomes unstable
- the audio amplifier shuts down
- the unit overheats or drains the battery
Replacing the unit does not eliminate the design flaw.
Proper repair and reinforcement does.
Why Repair Instead of Replace?
Many owners assume replacement is easier. In reality, repairing your original module is usually the smarter long-term solution:
- New modules are extremely expensive
- Used units often fail again for the same reason
- Your original unit is already matched to your car’s VIN
- No coding or programming required after repair
- We offer a lifetime guarantee on the repair

Most used modules on the market come from vehicles with the same underlying defect — meaning failure is only a matter of time.
How the Repair Process Works
- You send your MIB / MIB2 / MIB2.5 unit to us
- We open and inspect the module
- All known weak solder points are resoldered and reinforced
- The unit is tested under load and heat conditions
- We return it ready to reinstall

No coding.
No VIN matching.
No additional programming required.
For details about shipping, diagnostics and approval before repair, see our How It Works page.
